Chile elects first trans woman to congress

Emilia Schneider, a 25-year-old activist, is the first out transgender person to be elected to the National Congress of Chile.

After receiving over 26,000 votes in the nationwide election, she will represent District 10 of Santiago de Chile.

She'll be officially sworn in on March 2022.
