Lindy Lee is an Australian painter and sculptor. Her work blends the cultures of Australia and her ancestral China and explores her Buddhist faith. Since the early 1980s, she has explored ideas around history, family and personal identity. Lee made her first ‘photo copy’ work by selecting an image from western art history and photocopying it over and over, allowing it to fade into monochrome. Questioning ideas around originality, reproduction and the weight of art history before her. Lee explores her ancestral roots and notions of belonging, as a first-generation Chinese–Australian artist working in the present.
