Packaging that changes colour when food spoils
A Brazilian company has partnered with universities in the U.S. and Brazil to create food packaging that will change color to alert you when it spoils. The package uses PH indicators to determine whether the food has spoiled. The first prototype of the technology was released last year. If successfully incorporated, it could help with problems of food waste and prevent consumers from navigating confusing labels.

An apple that doesn't turn brown
This month, a special kind of apple slice will go on sale at select US supermarkets and, thanks to CSIRO research, these apples won't turn brown when they're cut, bitten, or bruised. Arctic apples have been developed by an innovative Canadian biotech company and their first product will be bags of fresh non-browning Arctic Golden apple slices. While there are other sliced apple products already on the market, these are often coated with vitamin C and calcium to prevent browning and to preserve crispness, and this can change their taste. https://blog.csiro.au/apples-no-longer-cruising-for-a-bruising/

Inspired by nature to reduce food spoilage
The WEF acknowleged that finding solutions to provide nutritious food to nearly 10 billion people by 2050 without destroying the planet is one of the greatest leadership opportunities of our generation. And yet almost half the world's food ends up in landfill every year. This US-based company (founded from a Gates Foundation grant) has found a way to reduce food spoilage, inspired by nature's strategy for preservation. https://blog.apeelsciences.com/learn-more-about-apeel-in-the-new-documentary-power-trip-the-story-of-energy Image by hellotimothytyndale from Pixabay

A gift that inspires a change in eating habits
I was very impressed to receive a home delivery today of a v2 plant based meal for 4 as a result of attending the very inspiring Advance Roundtable with Main Sequence Ventures. It's a perfect way to celebrate Fathers Day at home with our vegetarian son and try his favourite plant based meat!
