A Twist on Fundraising for Causes You Care About
WeThinkItMatters is a clever "philanthropic web app" designed to raise funding for nonprofits that you wish to support. With the tap of your finger, you direct the donations of campaign sponsors (companies who actually make the donations). There's also a way for you to have the chance to win cash prizes. A cashless debit card for disadvantaged communities
The cashless debit card has been designed to help disadvantaged communities, including in indigenous areas, decrease the level of consumption of drugs, alcohol and gambling which impacts on the health and wellbeing of communities, families and children. It quarantines 80 per cent of welfare recipients' payments for other living expenses. The Australian Government needs the Senate to support introducing the card to new locations when communities want it. https://www.dss.gov.au/families-and-children/programmes-services/welfare-conditionality/cashless-debit-card-overview

Keeping young people out of jail
In March 2015, nearly 75% of young people in detention in WA were identified as Aboriginal or indigenous. Strong Tomorrow is an intensive mentoring and case management program for young offenders that Save the Children has been delivering since 2014 in Armadale (in metropolitan Perth) and since 2015 in Kununurra (in the Kimberley) which both have high rates of crime. It's targeted at young offenders aged 10-17 and aims to reduce rates of offending which initial results indicate it has. The cost of this program compares very favourably with the cost of keeping a young person in detention at approx $300,000 per annum.
