Personal address system and skills program for people experiencing homelessness
Homelessness continues to be a serious issue across Australia which affects so many; the essence is about absence - absence of a home, a safe place to live, social connection, choices and control over one's life.My aim is to design and generate a system that allows individuals to regain their sense of identity. This can be achieved through providing easily accessible lockers with a personal address attached, as well as fundamental services such as counselling and practical skills to assist people find connection and belonging in the community.Help me turn homelessness into a situation- not an identity.
Rotating Pool Table/Dining Room Table
Tables are some of the most resource and cost consuming pieces of furniture, because of the sizes of pieces used, and space that is required for a table. I have designed a solution to this problem by creating a new way of combining a pool table and dining room table. Being made almost entirely of timber, pool tables and dining room tables consume large amounts of resources to create. But by combining the two, it allows these amounts to be halved.RequestWhat changes could be made for this to be more appealing to consumers?
Yearly, around 7 million tonnes of building waste materials are sent to waste disposal. My product enables me to counter that, being a fashionable clothing accessory, that incorporates a bottle cap opener. This product could be manufactured with waste products, such as stone, metals or wood. As fashion goes through seasons, it incorporates a overhang, which can be used to take off beer bottle caps, which saves other products from being manufactured. It may also be an accessory which could be put on necklaces. Rings are also very easy to design, meaning new designs could be manufactered constantly.
Affordable fidget jewellery
My project targets youth struggling with mental health by giving them an outlet to use their nervous energy and help them focus in a discreet way. It does this through allowing them to fidget in a non-distracting way which can help with focus during school and assist their endeavours in having good mental health.
On-water statistics while rowing
My idea aims to increase the performance of rowers by providing helpful information via a device while rowing. This device provides the user with GPS location, stroke rate, heart rate, elapsed time and their 500m split, all while being waterproof and touchscreen. This product allows the user to view all of their data as if they were on an ergometer (rowing machine). This fixes the problem rowers face when going out onto the water, not knowing how far they have rowed and at what intensity.
Recycling fabrics By Using Second-hand Textiles
I am creating a cheaper, durable, and sustainable
alternative for a formal dress made from thrifted and deconstructed fabrics.
800,000 tonnes of Australian clothing and textiles are
discarded each year, attributed to the effects of fast fashion which at times
takes qualitative shortcuts for an expensive price.
My solution aims to minimise fabric wastage while also reinforcing
it through use of different stitches and patterns. The garment will be
adjustable, and due to it’s sourcing from charity stores, the expenses will
help marginalised groups.
Could I please have some advice on ameliorating the
conditions of used fabrics?
